Hi, thanks for
visiting my solo guitar page! Please
have a listen to some of the clips. I've been at
this for quite awhile and my style has been variously described as a mix of Chet Atkins, Guy Van Duser and
Leo Kottke etc.. While I love, admire and am inspired by the playing of
these guys (in addition to many, many
others) I think the similarity is coincidental as I don't really know any of
their arrangements - I'm too busy working on my own! I have several solo styles but I always
try for a complete, full and satisfying sound. I've arranged
or written dozens of songs in many styles - a very small sample of which is
included here. I am available
for performances and instruction, both of which I've been doing around the
Boston area for years. I play
coffeehouses, open-mic features and parties etc. - when I'm not busy with
playing with The Wicked Pickers - a great band! I have recorded 2 CD's of mostly original solo guitar material
that are available for purchase. My basic style
is to use a flat pick with my second and third fingers. While a bit unorthodox it's not uncommon,
although I don't personally know anyone who uses it. It evolved over time as a practical way of
playing different styles with one technique.
I've recently started using the Herco thumb-flat pick, which is really
cool! I use a couple of altered
tunings and a capo sometimes and have some 12 string arrangements too. I've played a bit of everything over the
years but solo finger style is my real love. I'm interested
in hearing from you; feedback, questions, general comments - anything. Enjoy! Bill Morris |
